Shaka Hawkins

Director of Bands

Prior to his appointment at Tomball High School, Shaka Hawkins spent 4 years as Director of Bands at Victoria West High School. His duties include directing the Wind Ensemble, Jazz Orchestra, assisting with the Symphonic and Concert Bands, and assisting with the middle school bands in the West cluster. The Band of Warriors saw consistent success in that time including: consistent UIL Sweepstakes Awards, 1st Place Class 5A and Grand Champion Bay Area Marching Festival, 1st Place Class 5A Gregory-Portland Tournament of Bands, 8th place UIL Area G Marching Contest Finals. US Bands Remo Cup Finalist, the Jazz Orchestra was awarded best HS Jazz Band Day 1 at the University of Houston Jazz Festival, and the Warrior Indoor Winds earned a silver medal at TCGC State Championships. Prior to Victoria West he spent two years as assistant director at Palmview High School located in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas. While at Palmview, the Lobo Band competed in many contests and earned multiple achievements such as: consecutive 1st divisions at UIL Marching Contest, 1st Place Laredo Marching Festival, Best In Class Laredo Marching Festival, the Howlin’ Lobo Indoor Winds won 1st Place TECA Championships earning best General Effect and best Music, and the PHS Symphonic Band earned a first division at UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest. He also served as the Director of Bands at Shelbyville High School in Shelbyville, Texas for 5 years.While at Shelbyville, his bands consistently found success across the state. The Shelbyville Dragon Band earned 5 consecutive UIL Sweepstakes awards, placed 1st at Area Marching contest in 2014 and 2016, finished 4th Place at the Texas State Marching Contest in 2014 and 2016, and finished 2nd in the 2014 TMEA Honor Band contest. Mr. Hawkins is currently in his 2nd season as a brass instructor for Genesis Drum and Bugle Corps. He also was previously a brass staff member for the Crossmen Drum and Bugle Corps, and Troopers Drum and Bugle Corps. Mr. Hawkins received his Bachelor of Music Education from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2008. While at SFA, he studied Tuba under Dr. Jefferey Schultz, Dr. David Kirven, and Dr. J,D, Salas. He also performed as principal Tuba in the Wind Ensemble under the direction of Fred. J Allen, principal in the Orchestra of the Pines under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Jacobson, and marched in the Lumberjack Marching Band under the direction of Dr. David Campo, performed at the regional ITEC conventions in Lubbock and Austin, TX, won the SFA Orchestra of the Pines Concerto Competition. He was an All-State Musician, and was awarded the UIL Outstanding Soloist award 2 times. Mr. Hawkins is a member of Texas Music Educators Association, Texas Bandmasters Association, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kappa Kappa Psi, Texas Music Adjudicators Association, US Bands Adjudicator, UIL Sight Reading Committee, and TMAA Ad-Hoc Marching Band Committee. Patrick Lemanczyk

Assistant Director of Bands

Mr. Lemanczyk is excited to join the Tomball High School family, and start his first year teaching! Mr. Lemanczyk is a first generation American, and he is from Cedar Park Texas. He was a student at Leander ISD. The schools he attended were Henry Middle School, Vista Ridge High School, and he graduated from Leander High School in 2017. His primary instrument is the Saxophone. He continued his studies at the University of Houston, and earned his Bachelors of Music Education in 2022. He graduated Magna Cum Laude. As a high school student, Mr. L was consistently a TMEA All-State District champion and Area finalist. He was a two time State U.I.L soloist. In the summer of 2016, Mr. L was invited to attend the Interlochen Center For The Arts Saxophone Institute, and Summer Festival. He worked with legends such as: Steve Davis, Kevin Sedatole, Matthew Schlomer, Jerry Junkin, Timothy McAllister, Zach Shemon, Edward Goodman, and Taimur Sullivan. The following year, Mr. L was a finalist at the 2017 Houston Underground Solo Saxophone Competition. At the University of Houston, Mr. L studied saxophone with Mr. Dan Gelok, and Dr. Woody Witt. In 2020, he was the Soprano Saxophonist for the Sublimus Saxophone Quartet. This quartet was chosen to be one of two all undergraduate saxophone quartets at the Coltman Chamber Music Competition Finals. Mr. L performed as principal saxophonist in the University of Houston Wind Ensemble, under the direction of David Bertman. He was also in the University of Houston Jazz Ensemble and Jazz Orchestra, under the direction of Mr. Noe Marmolejo. Mr. L also marched Drum Corps with the Santa Clara Vanguard Cadets in 2019. As a teacher, Mr. L taught private saxophone lessons at Arnold Middle School in Cy-Fair ISD, and Crosby High School in Crosby ISD. His Student Teaching was completed at Eanes ISD in Austin Texas. He was lucky to work with Mrs. Alanna Kumme at West Ridge Middle School, and Mr. Kerry Taylor at Westlake High School. Outside of music, Mr. L is a competitive archer! In 2021, he was named the Austin Archery Club Season Champion! He used his winnings to help pay for his final semesters in college. Tyler C. Broadhurst

Director of Percussion

Tyler C. Broadhurst serves as the Director of Percussion for the Tomball HS cluster, where he oversees curriculum, instruction, and lessons for 6-12th percussion students. Mr. Broadhurst is an active performer and educator in the percussion community. He was a member of both the Troopers and Revolution Drum and Bugle Corps, and was on teaching staff for Red River Rhythm Independent (WGI) out of Bossier City, LA. He has spent several years working with Texas state-level marching band programs, and his students have earned multiple awards in a variety of percussion competitions. In 2018, Tyler founded the East Texas Drumline Camp as an opportunity to grow the percussion community in the area. The camp was highly successful, and helped pave the way for the Texas A&M University-Commerce Summer Percussion Camp & Director Symposium in partnership with Stryvemind. Tyler holds a BM from Henderson State University and is a member of TBA, TMEA, PAS, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, as well as an Educational Artist for Salyers Percussion. Conner Adams

Colorguard Director

Conner Adams is a second year Colorguard Director with the Tomball Hs band. Conner has been a performer in the activity since 2012 and has since performed with programs such as Carolina Crown, The Boston Crusaders, and Paramount Winterguard. Conner has worked with groups at all levels of the activity throughout the country and most recently spent his summer on staff with the Mandarins Drum and Bugle Corps.
